What Is Flaky Stuff? If you got here by hitting the "Powered By Flaky Stuff" button and were expecting some sort of software program, I'm sorry but there isn't one! Flaky stuff can be found in various forms, for example old paint on a door, or what about the famous chocolate bar that was first developed by accident in 1920 by an employee at Cadburys. There is Flaky Pastry, there is Metalflake Paint, and you can even find Soap Flakes and Snow Flakes. Though I must admit I've looked very hard but never seen the Golden Sun Flakes that Pink Floyd sung about on Grantchester Meadows. No the Flaky Stuff I'm referring to comes from Psoriasis! Psoriasis is a chronic, autoimmune disease that appears on the skin. It occurs when the immune system sends out faulty signals that speed up the growth cycle of skin cells (every three to four days instead of the usual 28-30 day cycle.) It commonly causes red, scaly patches to appear on the skin. The scaly patches commonly caused by psoriasis, called psoriatic plaques, are areas of inflammation and excessive skin production. I have had Psoriasis for well over 30 years and have produced tons of Flaky Stuff. We all shed our skin but unfortunately for someone with psoriasis, they shed loads of it. And believe me it's not the shedding of the skin that is the problem, it's how psoriasis can ruin your life. I don't want to look like a Leper or be called one come to that, I just want to live a normal life without feeling tired, sore, uncomfortable, and sometimes unable to even move. Yes psoriasis can turn into Psoriatic Arthritis and I have that too. Don't worry you can't catch psoriasis form another person it is NOT contagious, however there is nothing to say you won't end up with psoriasis one day as it affects around 1 in 50 people from around the world. And 10% of those will go on to get psoriatic arthritis. So there you have it. Flaky Fred and his website are powered by Flaky Stuff. If you want to know more about Psoriasis I'm part of another website called Psoriasis Club where you will find a friendly bunch of people who understand all about psoriasis. You don't judge a book by its cover so don't judge me by mine. You could be next! |
