A weekend in La Rochelle


Though a bit grey when we got there the rain held off and it actually made a pleasant change from all the hot sun we had been having as it wasn't too hot, we had a great time just wandering around and doing a bit of people watching whilst stuffing ourselves with some great food.

This is the "Vieux Port" ("Old Harbour")

Lots of entertainment going on especially in the evenings.

This guy was doing close up magic and he even got the kids involved.



Fire jugglers.



These were good the one on the left is made from hollowed out courge's.



I did enjoy these guys "Three Little Birds" they said it was Blues with a hint of Caribbean, or Caribbean with a hint of Blues.
In the end they said it was just what they like playing, but they were very good.

The Big Wheel

Plucked up the courage for a ride on the Big Wheel, the tower in the background is the Railway Station.

Yum Yum!

This little place was fantastic, you go to the front and choose from Sardines, Squid, Prawns, Razor Clams, Oysters, Crab, Mussels, Bread, Wine. Once you've placed your order you go around the back of the boat with your numbered seashell, take a seat and wait whilst they cook your order fresh and bring it over to you. It was absolutely brilliant, we stuffed our faces and sunk a couple of bottles of wine.

You can order all at once or just wave your numbered shell as and when you want more,  and they will come and ask what you want next.

Le Musée des Automates

Loved this place it's a collection of Automata from around Europe, some of them were very old and there were some partly stripped down so you could see how they worked. As you walk along some of them start up, and there are others where you push a button to see them moving. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing these.

Graffiti

This little disused area of the port has been given over to the Graffiti artists, it's a great idea and keeps all the graffiti in one place.

Bikers In Town

The bikers were in town, guess which one caused a bit of a photo frenzy?

All in all we had a great time, the place was very clean we had some great food and felt very comfortable.

Almost forgot the old Carousel that was still in action today.
